Project: Effects of nitrogen deposition on eutrophication-sensitive temperate forest communities

This research aims to explore the correlations between deposition, the soil nitrogen content and changes in the understory vegetation of potentially eutrophication-sensitive forests in the federal state of Baden-Württemberg (southwest Germany). A database for the definition of critical limits (i.e. critical concentrations in the soil solution) for nitrogen will be created through the simultaneous assessment of vegetation and soil data in nitrogen-sensitive forest associations throughout Baden-Württemberg. In order to assess the critical limits, the conservation status of the forest associations will be defined by the proportion of untypical and nitrophilous species present.
